2026 SLI for Secondary School Teachers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

OJEN\u2019s Summer Law Institute (SLI) is our flagship professional development event for secondary school teachers<\/strong> of law and law-related subjects. The SLI is a two-day conference, held in downtown Toronto. The event features experts talking about emerging areas of law and key issues facing the justice system in Ontario. It has become a late-summer staple for many teachers as they prepare to return to the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 25th<\/b> and Wednesday, August 26th, 2026<\/b>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We look forward to welcoming you back to the SLI in person this summer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Register at the early bird rate at $75<\/strong> by July 17th, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 15, 2026, the Supreme Court of Canada recognized a new tort of intimate partner violence, allowing litigants to pursue damages against their intimate partners for conduct such as isolation, financial control, sexual coercion, and intimidation. This decision is the outcome of the Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia<\/em> case, where Kuldeep Ahluwalia was subjected to physical, psychological, and financial abuse from her husband.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a landmark decision for survivors of intimate partner violence, with Canadian Law recognizing the detrimental effects of physical, psychological and financial abuse.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
