It\u2019s been another challenging year for teachers and students, as the pandemic eases and in person activities resume. We were delighted to see so many students back in courthouses arguing their cases in mock trial tournaments. We look forward to seeing many of you in August at our first in-person Summer Law Institute since 2019. In the meantime, everyone at OJEN wishes you a well deserved break! We asked staff to suggest some summer reading to help you unwind and recharge your batteries. Here are some of their suggestions for a chill day at the beach or in your backyard.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fiction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Central Park West<\/strong> <em>by James Comey<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cControversial former FBI director, James Comey, has reinvented himself as a crime fiction writer. In his first novel, he draws on his decades of experience in federal law enforcement, including his years in Manhattan as a mob prosecutor and later the chief federal prosecutor. <strong>Central Park West<\/strong> is a fast-paced legal thriller with an intriguing plot enriched by real-life details and experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a class=\"btn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/en\/book\/show\/62699619\">Goodreads<\/a>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Christodora<\/strong> <em>by Tim Murphy<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This book draws you into the lives of a diverse cast of characters all linked to the Christodora building in the East Village in NYC. It\u2019s about a lot of things (AIDS, drugs, gentrification, art), but at its core it is a moving illustration of how we take care of each other in the face of extreme hardships and almost insurmountable circumstances. <strong><em>Christadora<\/em><\/strong> is a vibrant, ambitious, funny, gorgeously written epic that captures New York in all its glory and despair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a class=\"btn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/de\/book\/show\/27070074-christodora\">Goodreads<\/a>\n&nbsp;\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Denial<\/strong> <em>by Beverley McLauchlin<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFormer Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, Beverley McLauchlin, returns vicariously to the courtroom as a writer of legal fiction. Her first novel, 2018\u2019s <strong>Full Disclosure<\/strong>, introduced readers to Vancouver defense attorney Jilly Truitt, a tough-as-nails lawyer willing to take risks in the courtroom. In <strong>Denial<\/strong>, Jilly is back, this time defending the wife of a high-powered \u201clawyer\u2019s lawyer,\u201d on a murder charge. If you are a fan of legal procedurals, this is well worth adding to your reading list!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a class=\"btn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/en\/book\/show\/54304269\">Goodreads<\/a>\n&nbsp;\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hello Beautiful <\/strong><em>by Ann Napolitano<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cHello Beautiful<\/strong> was an instant New York Times bestseller and was selected as an Oprah\u2019s Book Club Pick. It tells a sprawling family saga that explores the power of love and forgiveness over the passage of time. The book is an exquisite homage to Louisa May Alcott&#8217;s timeless classic, <strong>Little Women<\/strong>.
