Organized by members of the local bench, Regional Senior Justice Dumel and Justice Loignon, this bilingual, day-long event encourages female-identifying, gender-fluid, and non-binary youth from racialized and/or marginalized backgrounds to explore careers in the justice sector. Ottawa-area students aged 15 to 22 are invited to register for keynote addresses, panel and roundtable discussions, and networking opportunities with lawyers, judges, law students, paralegals, police and other legal professionals. The event offers participants an opportunity to discover the full range of careers available in the justice sector and to meet inspiring professionals working in the field. Too often, young women do not see themselves reflected among those working in the legal profession, or they question whether they can make a place for themselves within it. By providing opportunities to meet inspiring women working in the justice sector, the program aims to broaden participants’ perspectives, nurture their ambitions, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

Past keynote speakers include the Honourable Justice Michelle O’Bonsawin, Canada’s first Indigenous Supreme Court justice; the Honourable Justice Maria Sirivar of the Superior Court of Justice; and Her Worship Regional Senior Justice Louise Logue of the Ontario Court of Justice. This year’s keynote speaker is Ms. Nana Yanful, principal of Yanful Law, who specializes in equity and human rights law. The program will be held November 4, 2026 from 9:00-4:00 at the Ottawa Courthouse.

Registration is available at:
avenir.futuresinjustice@gmail.com

Please note: “Futures in Justice / Avenirs en justice” is a different program from “Breaking Barriers to Careers in Law,” a half-day event being held at the Ottawa Courthouse on November 3, 2026.”

«Futures in Justice / Avenirs en justice» en est maintenant à sa quatrième édition! Organisée par des membres de la magistrature locale, la juge principale régionale Dumel et la juge Loignon, cette activité bilingue d’une journée encourage les jeunes qui s’identifient comme filles ou femmes, qui sont de genre fluide ou qui sont non binaires, et qui sont issus de milieux racisés ou marginalisés, à explorer les possibilités de carrière dans le secteur de la justice.
