Justice Jane Milanetti, a Superior Court judge from Hamilton, Ontario, was recognized for her exceptional contribution to promoting public understanding, education or dialogue in support of a responsive and inclusive justice system. Since her appointment to the bench in 2003, Justice Milanetti has been an enthusiastic champion of justice education. She was the driving force behind the establishment of the Hamilton OJEN committee in 2007, which she has chaired for the past nine years. This group of justice and education sector volunteers is committed to initiating opportunities for students to learn about the justice system. Under her leadership, two secondary school mock trial tournaments per year take place in the John Sopinka Courthouse where she sits. Despite her demanding schedule, she finds time to personally welcome the students to the courthouse and play an active role in the tournaments.
