2026 Andrea Lefebvre

The 2026 Hux-Kiteley Exemplary Justice Educator Award was presented to Andrea Lefebvre at the OJEN Summer Law Institute on August 26, 2026. Andrea is a teacher at Chippewa Secondary School in North Bay, part of the Near North District School Board. She is the Canadian and World Studies Department Head at her school and teaches Grade 11 and Grade 12 law classes and Drama courses from Grades 9–12.  

Several of her nominators remarked on Andrea’s ability to build meaningful partnerships with justice professionals in her community. Her extensive guest speaker program exposes her students to a wide variety of legal professionals including police officers, Crown attorneys, defence lawyers, Indigenous legal professionals, court reporters, judges, law students, and many more legal professionals that she invites into her classroom.

 She regularly organizes educational field trips to Canadore College’s Criminal Justice Day, the North Bay and Sudbury Courthouses, municipal government institutions, and the Toronto Holocaust Museum, providing real-world insight into law, human rights, and civic engagement.  

Andrea excels at integrating justice education across disciplines. As a drama teacher, she recently directed a drama festival production of The 146 Point Flame. She usedthe opportunity to explore with her students the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and its connections to workers’ rights, immigration, labour conditions, gender equity, and historical justice issues. The production was selected for the 2026 Ontario Showcase at York University.   

 Over the past 5 years, Andrea’s mock trial teams have participated in OJEN’s mock trial tournaments, where they have achieved significant success in regional competitions. She is working with local judiciary to start a local mock trial tournament in North Bay.  

Currently, she is leading the development of a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in Justice at Chippewa Secondary School, demonstrating her vision, leadership, and ongoing commitment to strengthening justice education within the region. 

For her dedication, innovation, and leadership, Andrea is the 16th recipient of the annual Hux-Kiteley Exemplary Justice Educator Award. Congratulations Andrea!
