OJEN and JFCY co-present a workshop session at the Connect, Create, Communicate Conference in 2016.
OJEN turned 15 this year!
Since 2002, our programs and resources have impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people throughout Ontario. And we’re just getting started! Looking ahead to 2018 and beyond we’re excited about opportunities to expand our justice education initiatives to new youth audiences. We know that providing young people with the legal life skills to navigate their world is one important factor contributing to greater access to justice.
Between now and the end of 2017, we’ll be posting 15 of our most significant achievements – reasons we think you’ll want to give us an extra-special year-end present!

Reason #14
OJEN chooses collaboration instead of duplication.
“The Connect Create Communicate Conference gave CLEO and OJEN our first opportunity to collaborate on a large scale LawConnect initiative. CLEO and OJEN worked together to come up with integrated and often innovative conference themes, bring in a range of presenters, and attract wide participation. The result was much better, in numerous ways, than what either organization could have achieved on its own.”
Julie Mathews – Executive Director, Community Legal Education Ontario
OJEN almost always provides its programs in partnership with other organizations. By establishing mutually beneficial partnerships with justice sector institutions, schools, community organizations, government agencies and countless individuals, our small organization is able to leverage big results. Our programs draw on the expertise of other organizations and individuals. We collaborate with them to design and deliver justice education initiatives that are better than what we might have produced on our own.
OJEN also maximizes its impact by collaborating with organizations that do similar work. Three years ago, OJEN co-located with Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) to pursue more meaningful collaboration and greater coordination between our two organizations. We have built on areas of existing overlap, shared staff and expertise, and coordinated our activities to better support the practice of public legal education in Ontario.
Collaborations that maximize impact and reduce duplication is another Reason to Give to OJEN’s 15th Birthday Campaign.
