Toronto Summer Law Institute for teachers happens Tuesday, August 27th and Wednesday, August 28th at Osgoode Hall, Toronto.

The Toronto Summer Law Institute, OJEN’s flagship PD event for teachers, provides a thought-provoking look into some of the most interesting and controversial legal issues of the day from the legal professionals at their centre.

- Solitary Confinement – Senator Kim Pate joins us by Skype for an informative session about the impact of solitary confinement on prison inmates and a behind the scenes look at the ongoing efforts to reform legislation effecting its use.
- Hate Speech – Khrystina McMillan from the law firm Lax O’Sullivan Lisus Gottlieb, discusses the cyber libel case brought by Paramount Fine Foods owner, Mohamad Fakih, which resulted in record damages being awarded to the plaintiff.
- Environmental Law – One of teacher’s most requested topics! Executive Director and Counsel, Theresa McClenaghan and Counsel, Jacqueline Wilson from the Canadian Environmental Law Association, discuss their work representing individuals and communities with environmental concerns.
