In Brief: Canadian Courts
OJEN In Brief resources are designed to provide high school students with an introduction to basic legal concepts. Each resource includes a short lesson plan for the teacher; a 1-4 page plain language description of the legal topic; and activities that provide students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge of the topic.
In Brief: Canadian Courts provides an overview of the structures of the court systems of Canada and Ontario, including descriptions of the Supreme Court of Canada and the provincial, territorial and federal courts, as well as the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal for Ontario. It also explores the different jurisdictions of these courts and discusses various court traditions, including the coat of arms, courtroom attire, the judicial sash, the oath and the bow.
